My art is an intimate act of remembrance which embodies the silence of our innate knowing… holding moments of grace, sorrow and the inheritance of racial and social truths that is our collective existence. My practice moves from the knowledge that those things not consciously known can be viscerally felt through the body.
Working with tapestries of life, consciousness and the natural world, presence and absence, I explore the emotional landscapes of memory, place and time in two and three-dimensional forms.
I work on paper with soil, earth and plant pigments, ocean water, organic matter, and always indigo… elements which symbolically carry both the generative power of the feminine and their own histories and forgotten legacies. Through accumulation and echo, the stories held in these materials guide my exploration of the ephemeral, the transitory, the natural cycle of birth…death...regeneration, and the transformative power of disintegration and loss.
